Ballona Creek Grand Prix

Our innovative take on Head Racing. Where we model the race on motorsport, and add more layers of tactics and strategy in order to make the coxswains job even more important. Before the race, all crews compete on ergs for the pole position on the water. Coxswain pick their place on the starting grid, and then all crews start racing at the same time. Fastest crew gets the chequered flag and the winning coxswain gets a jug of eggnog.

The course is 6.8km long, using both Ballona Creek and the Marina Del Rey waterways. It features three 180 degree turns and 4 long straights, designed to allow for easy over taking, and exciting racing. All crews will go past the UCLA Marina Aquatic Center, three times making this race the premier event in America for spectators. This event is held in December each year. Scheduled for Saturday the 1st of December in 2018.

UCLA Classic

First held in the 1980’s, this regatta use the exceptional water of the Ballona Creek Regatta Center to host a four lane Sprints Regatta. The regatta is run using Henley style progression through the knockout rounds, before the four best crews race in the Grand Final.

This regatta is held in the Spring, and will be held on Sunday the 10th of March in 2019.

Events on offer in 2018 were Open Eights, and Freshman/Novice Eights. We hope to add a Fours event in 2019.
