The UCLA Men’s Rowing team is a club varsity program fully recognized by both the Pac-12 Conference and ACRA conference. The club is a part of the Competitive Sports Program within the UCLA Recreation Department. Our boathouse is located in prime position within beautiful Marina Del Rey. On one side of the boathouse the team has access to the waters of Marina del Rey, and on the other side is a pontoon to the always calm waters of the custom built five lane 2000m course in Ballona Creek.

Our athletes are top performers both on and off water, with many oarsmen earning All Pac-12 honors in both athletics and academics over the years.

This new era of UCLA Men’s Crew has seen the Bruin men win a majority of their dual races, also bringing home medals from the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships, and the Pac12 Rowing championships, and also competing in the American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA) Championships on an annual basis.  The team travels to regattas all over the United States, from Boston, to Seattle, San Diego, Sacramento, Santa Barbara, Orange County and more – with the eventual goal of concluding the season at the National Championships in Atlanta. In 2018 the team also raced successfully in China.

The Varsity squad practices eight times a week for most of the academic year, with morning practices on the water before classes, and both afternoon ergs and weight training taking place at Drake Stadium on campus.

28 novice walk-ons are selected to join the crew each fall, many having had no prior rowing experience. We actively encourage high school rowers and transfers to apply to UCLA and join our program. 

Student-Athletes pay less than a quarter of the expenses to participate from Fall through the Pac12 Rowing Championships. The alumni group, Friends Of UCLA Men’s Rowing (FOUR), cover the other portion and also help fund the trip to the national championships for boats that qualify.
